ChemCup 2026 & Social Activities

We are incredibly proud that so many of our group members got to travel this summer. With all the conferences and events, labs and offices felt quite empty from time to time. Yet still, we found opportunity to bring the group together for team activities.

For instance, we joined forces again with the MAP group to represent the department of Macromolecular Chemistry at this years ChemCup competing for the renowned trophy. Unfortunately, our squad had a rough start into the football tourney held between working groups from the chemistry division at TU Darmstadt. As we struggled to convert our many chances in front of the goal, we suffered three close losses during group stage and unluckily placed last. This meant we were put up against a wall facing the Busch group from the department of Technical Chemistry – not only the first-placed team from the second group but also later finalists. Thanks once more to our incredible supporting staff which never stopped pushing us and cheering us on, we held our heads up high and by far played our best game yet. With great positioning, precise passing game and high possession, we began to turn the odds in our favor for a giant upset. It came completely out of the blue that we suffered a soul-crushing last-minute goal. After initial shock, especially when our last-resort secret strategy got wrongfully whistled off, we really look back on our efforts with great pride as we almost made the miracle happen. One thing is for sure, next year we will strike back stronger than ever!

To leave absolutely no doubt that our team spirit remains tightly bound, we recently held a wonderful game night and shared laughs during a Jurassic breakfast.
